"Mortgage and such matters"

I wonder if you could clarify for me why there is an apparent dicrimination against newly landed immigrants in terms of a minimum 35% deposit on real estate as opposed to 5% for citizens? I have been told that this is the law. Also is there any guide for the new immigrant re: acquiring real estate?
Thanks much for your assistance.

This is generally an issue relating to the absence of a Canadian credit history. I do not believe it is based on any legislation, however.

Information on acquiring real-estate in Canada should be available at our web site in the early part of 2001.
