"Career in Librarianship"
Dear Harry,

I am contemplating applying for a permanent resident visa as a professional/skilled worker in Canada.

I have been practicing as a Librarian in academic institutions since 1992. I am currently employed by the University of Botswana Library, but woud want to pick up a job as a librarian in an academic institution in Canada. I would want to do this before applying for the resident visa. Do I stand any chance? My qualifications are: a first degree in Chemistry and a Masters in Information Science.

Please advice.

Regards.

Ayo.

Ayo,

I would never say to you that there is no chance in finding employment in Canada, but in this case, the chances are slim. We have many graduates in Library Studies that have difficulty in finding employment upon graduation. It would be very difficult for an employer to warrant hiring from abroad over hiring domestically.

For more information, consult the Canadian Librabry Association at www.cla.ca.

Best of luck

Harry
