"Pl. Help."
Hi,

This is my first posting. In fact I visited the site only few days back. Compliments to excellant layout & user friendly settings.

My background is Mech. Engineer( CCPE +ve for Visa purpose), got over 18 years in selling Engineering products semi capital/ capital in nature. Last ten years selling Plastic Extrusion equipement( capital goods). Good presentation skills both to groups & customers, adequate computer skills ( at ease with MS office package), open minded, do about 30%- 40 % travel, Fulent in English, can read & write in French somewhat. Age 47. Waiting for Interview- filed thro' Mr. Cohen.

Question is : Will I fit the Bill? Does everybody without " canadien exp" start at lower end- I don't mind selling even Pizza!!- Just kidding!. I am not there to built a great carrer but to take up a good challenging job that offers lot of learning. I know lot depends on many other factors. On the 'prema facie' what is your advise to prepare mentally. It's lot easier when one is ready mentally before landing . And my age - Is it a barrier? What do you say?

Long mail!! Just forgive me. Would appreciate your reply.

Thanks in advance... kris

Kris,

Firstly, I think you will need to prepare yourself to be flexible. You might not be doing your dream job right from the start. Try to have enough clarity to notice hidden opportunities.

Secondly, try to have as positive of an attitude as possible. Work your communication skills and your ability to radiate a sense of confidence. As I have said in other posts, employers want to be convinced that you can help them to make money. They are not that concerned about creating your dream job, THEY JUST WANT TO MAKE A PROFIT. If you can demonstrate skills that can help a company succeed, then you are halfway there.

Finally, don't we afraid to learn new things. Show that you have a drive to learn and that you can adapt to new tools and procedures.

You have a large amount of experience in a focussed field. Have a broad enough vision to consider positions that relate to what you have done but are not exactly in that genre.

Think positive and believe in yourself

Harry
