"PeopleSoft jobs"

   Dear Mr. Harry:

My wife and I are from Venezuela and we are applicants for PR. If all goes well we expect to land in Canada sometime in September, 2001 (I know nothing is guaranteed, but I have to think positive!!). I have 2 questions concerning our career possibilities:

1)I am a developer/technical consultant in the area of PeopleSoft Finacial Services suite. I also have a strong Visual basic, Oracle and SQL Server background. I read in earlier posts, that the 2 most popular ERP packages in Canada are SAP and JD Edwards. What about PeopleSoft?, is there a good demand of PeopleSoft professionals in Canada? or would I do better if I search for VB/Oracle/SQL Server jobs not necassarily related to PeopleSoft?.

2)My wife is a Tax consultant in Venezuela, with a graduate degree in International Taxation from Harvard University. She is specialized in Tax treaties and Transfer Pricing. She currently works for the Tax Administration Service in Venezuela. Is there a good chance for her to find work in this area? Does she have to "certify" herself in order to work in that field in Canada?

Thank you very much for you time,

Oscar Pérez

   Oscar,

Peoplesoft is a more popular ERP package out in Western Canada right now (Western Canada = everything west of Winipeg). SAP and JD Edwards demand is very high in Toronto, Montreal and especially Ottawa. There may be positions in Oracle, SQL and Visual Basic but as a whole there are sufficient reources domestically to handle these. My advice is to stick to the ERP packages. The resources are scarce and the money is better.

As for your wife, even though she studied international taxation, the tax system in Canada is very unique and varies from province to province. She would need to have supplemental education to learn the tax structure here.

Remember, nothing is impossible when you really want it.

Harry

I moved to Alberta from the UK in September and while searching for an IT Support job I did see quite a few positions that mentioned PeopleSoft. I think I saw more jobs advertised for VB, SQL and Oracle however. I would say that a few years experience is the key for any of these positions.

Andy.

Thanks for your information Andy. I intend to land in Toronto, but I am going to Canada with an open mind, that is, I will move to wherever good career opportunities are.

Thanks again,

Oscar
