"what kind of short term training to find a decent job?"
Hi everybody this is what I call an USEFUL WEBSITE!!!!
I am an Italian musician planning to move to Canada to join my
girlfriend. She is doin' a master at U of T (she is italian too) and she is on a student visa.
Since exporting a job like mine is not a very easy task (it will take a long time to find gigs, students etc.)
I was thinking about getting some kind of training to find a job (I' m not really into being a waiter or stuff like that..).
I took a couple of admission tests in I.T. schools
(Toronto school of business and CCBC- Canadian College of Business and Computers).
Do You think this is a good field to invest my time in ? (I'm thinking about 1 year programs)
Where can I find a ranking of this kind of school in Toronto ? (there are so many to choose between)
What IT skills is the canadian market asking for ? (designers, programmers , administrators).

If this is not a good field what kind of short term training would You suggest , to be able to find a Job
(let's say I have one Year and 10.000 to 14.000 can$ in my pockets)
The reason why I'm focusing on TRAINING is of course to be able to take advantage of code E08,
have a Back-up job and take my time before I decide to get married (then code E07 would come in pretty handy).

Thanks
Sorry for the amount of questions
A good dish of pasta is waiting for You whenever You decide to come to Italy for Holidays

Thanks for all the questions. First of all, despite the decrease of dot com companies, there still is a demand for e-business developers. Also , we see a need for people that want to develop software. Network support, administration and architecture also would be possiblities. Keep in mind that all these positions require strong communication skills but I am sure that you have that...YOU'RE ITALIAN! In choosing to pursue one of these areas, make sure that it is something that you want to do. Research the filed first.

In terms of good one year colleges in the Toronto area, I would suggest ITI and Herzing Institute. Get more information from their web sites: www.iti.edu and www.herzing.edu.

As far as coming to Italy, I broke up with an Italian girl on New Years Day, so I think I will pass on the invitation for right now. Thanks for the invitation.

Happy New Years and all the best,

Harry
