"Same-sex immigration"

Thank you for the time and care it takes to maintains such great site. It is a wealth of information.

I am an American wishing to immigrate to Canada sponsored by my same-sex partner. I understand that we can apply from the U.S. in the Family Class as common law partners. However, we plan to marry in Toronto and I am curious how the recent change in laws regarding same-sex marriage will effect immigration? Can I apply as a "spouse." It seems that as spouse's we could make our application from within Canada but I have not heard of a precedent for this. Your advice is greatly appreciated.
