I'm in the process of assembling my application for an immigrant visa. The part that's really throwing me concerns obtaining local and national police clearance.
The application kit for independents stipulates that I provide a copy of the enclosed PC-1 letter. Do I send one copy off to the FBI with payment, and submit the other with my application?
I'm also instructed to "affix my own address label." To which copies? To the one I'm sending to the FBI?
Next, I'm told that fingerprints "should be provided on the FBI fingerprint card." Further down the page, however, I'm told "not to contact any FBI office for fingerprinting." What gives? Where would I get fingerprinted?
Regarding the PC-1 letter itself, am I expected to list all addresses and dates of residence for my entire life, all 35 years of it, in that little box?
Finally, the Consulate office in Los Angeles tells me that I must also obtain police clearance from the state of California. In so doing, I should ask for a Minister's Permit or an Approval of Rehabilitation from Canada. I'm not a minister, and I have no criminal record, so why would I need this?
Someone please help -- I don't want to mess this up and delay my application.
Thanks.
