"Better place-Toronto or Vancouver???"

We have passed our interview and intend to migrate soon to Canada. We are yet to decide on the landing place. Please can anyone tell me which is a better place to stay economically(low rent--maybe 500CD for 1BR) and jobwise(high paying)- Toronto or Vancouver? My husband is in the IT field and I'm in HR. At present we are in US with a 5yr old kid. Any shared experiences on the subject will be welcome.

We came from the US as well a few months ago. Based on my experience the income and cost of living are proportional in most places worldwide, even in the US and Canada. I think that your ultimate goal would be get a job as soon as you land in Canada. I recommend starting your search from USA and getting as many leads as possible. Best places to start your job search are: workopolis.com and monster.ca. Focus on the places that you would like to settle down. That would be a good criterion for making your final decision.

We even imported our belongings including car from the US. If you need more additional information about Toronto, kindly contact me.

Good luck and keep a positive attitude,

Oswaldo

   Hi Oswaldo,
I recently received the Landing Papers and i am presently in the US . I would like to move to Toronto and i am an IT professional currently working in the US. I have two main queries .
1. Which area within Toronto would be a better place to stay and look for jobs .
2. I have a HONDA civic 1990 model car , which i am planning to import to Canada. I understand that there are no Custom duties , but there would be a fee payable to RIV. How much approx would be the registration fees in Toronto and what modifications need to be done to the car to meet Canadian Statndards and their approx cost ?

Thanks ,
Ravi.

The choice of an intended destination to settle in Canada can be a highly individualized and personal decision.

For example, some have been known to choose Vancouver as an intended destination simply because of the landscape that surounds that region. Indeed, many of Canada's largest and most beautiful mountain ranges can be found within driving distance of that city. As well, due to warming from the Pacific, the Vancouver/Victoria region have the mildest winters of Canada, with flowers sometimes even blooming in January.

For many others however, the primary concern in choosing a settlement location is that of career and economics. While Vancouver does have a large local economy, with many career opportunities, Toronto is considered to be Canada's financial, business, and career center, with most major corporations maintaining their Canadian corporate headquarters within the Toronto region. (There are of course many other cities and regions to choose from in Canada.)

In either case, rental-dwelling fees tend to be higher than the Canadian average in the Toronto and Vancouver areas.

Initiating a career and job search prior to landing in Canada may help one to make the decision about which final destination to choose in Canada.

Many websites such as www.monster.ca may assist in initiating a career-job search prior to landing, as well as giving one a sense of demand for different occupations in different regions of Canada.
