"Delayed Immigration Process "

With the immigration changes and now the attack on the US and potential declaration of war...how will that affect pending applications?

Also, I am under the impression that while I am in the immigration process I cannot visit my fiance in Canada, as it would be seen as trying to stay permently and I could be removed from Canada... Is this true? We have not seen each other in 9 months...

If I am able to visit, can it be for the full six months while the application is in process or not?

Thanks

   Hi
Regarding your query/ies, I've been in your situation. I applied for the Independent immigration in March 2001 and visited Canada in July 2001.
I was delayed at the port of entry for 4hrs for reasons best knowned to them. I was asked if I have applied for the independent immigration process and I said yes. In the nutshell, I was given until the day I was due to depart Canada as my stay date.
On the whole it isn't advisable to visit whilst your application is pending. You will be asked all sought of silly questions that may enrage you.

There have been no changes to the existing Canadian Immigration Laws and Regulations since these events. All Canadian Visa offices abroad continue to process all visa applications just as they did before.

However, you may be aware that Canada is in the process of overhauling its Immigration Laws and Regulations. The Canadian Parliament has already passed the new Law and it now awaits approval by the Senate. We expect this approval to come very soon especially because the new Law provides for tighter security measures.

You can apply for permanent resident status and temporary status at the same time (dual intent). Doing so will not harm your application for permanent resident status. However, your application for temporary status may be affected because an impression will have been created that you do not intend to leave Canada upon the expiration of your temporary status. Therefore it is better to apply for temporary status before you apply for your permanent resident status.
