Once the application is submitted inland or abroad, there is no bar to your spouse's departure from Canada. On each subsequent re-entry, however, her admissibility as a visitor will be assessed by an immigration official on the basis of discretion. A risk (albeit small in many cases) exists, therefore, that her return to Canada could be barred.

The application process will most likely require approximately 6-7 months if an interview can be avoided. If an interview is required, the process will likely require approximately 12 months.
