"Extension of Visa Papers"

   Dear Mr Cohen,

My husband is a landed immigrant(Canada).I could not accompany him for the landing(spouse). This is due to medical reasons.I am pregnant and was advised not to fly at all.To this effect a medical certificate was sent to the visa officer, along with my visa.( i still have the visa valid till 27th Aug'01).Now i would like to know if this visa can be extended for another few months, till after my delivery, on compassionate grounds.Or

1.Is this visa wasted.
2.Do i have to reapply again as a fresh applicant.Or
3.Can we receive instructions from our Visa officer just to undergo fresh medical tests for myself and the baby without going thru the whole procedure all over again.
4.What are the sponsorship formalites,if my husband sponsors us from Canada.

Please advise.
Many thanks,
Shasan.

It is not generally possible to extend the validity of landing documents. That may be especially applicable if your spouse has already landed with documents from the same application. If at all possible, you should try to land. If that is not possible, it does not hurt to make the request for extension. Almost certainly, however, the request will not be honoured, and the landing documents will become invalid, and a sponsorship application would be required.
