"After PR approval"

I am currently working in the US on a work VISA, but am considering Canada for long term career and settlement procspects.

Am not too sure as to how long I will further be working in the US (since I have some contractual obligations), but do want to
initiate my PR process, so that I can smoothly move from the US to Canada when the time comes.

So the questions I have are :

1) How long, after the PR approval, can I wait before I am mandated to move to Canada ?

2) Is there a process my means of which I can apply for an extension of my "move" grace period ? (If I can use that term)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kaushal

You will have a maximum of one year from the date of completion of medical examinations in which to land in Canada as a permanent resident. This generally allows 6-9 months after the issuance of landing documents. Failure to land within this time would generally necessitate a new application.
