"Bachelor Degree of Two Year either acceptable or not under Skilled Workers Category "

   Dear Sir / Madam

I am a Pakistani Business Graduate. My friends and me of same qualification are interested in Canadian Skilled Worker Immigration. Before applying for Canadian Immigration I want to confirm that Canadian Visa Official either accept Bachelor Degree of Two Years Program or not. Because Bachelor Degree in Pakistan is of Two Years. While in Canada and America Bachelor Degree is of Three Years.

One of my friend who is B.Sc. (Two Years) and MBA (Two Years) from State recognized University was interviewed in Islamabad, Canadian Embassy under Skilled Workers Category. The concerned Visa Officer told him that since your Bachelor Degree is of Two year therefore we don’t accept your MBA which is based on this Degree. He said that he is going to give him just 13 points.

I want confirmation whether there is any recent change in Canadian Immigration Policy regarding Bachelor Degree of Pakistan and India or not.

Will you please comments on the remarks of visa officer? What is your suggestion to tackle this matter. Moreover I got notion that Federal Court of Canada has issued orders to give 16 points regardless of 2 to 3 years of Bachelor Degree. Is this true or not.

Best Regards – Habeeb Awan

Canada's immigration laws presently define a first level university degree as requiring three years of full time study. As such, 2-year Bachelor degrees are generally not awarded 15 units. They are commonly awarded 13 units of assesment. A Federal Court ruling, however, has stated that a secondary level university degree must be awarded the full 16 units of assessment, as long as it meets the requirements of such, regardless of the assessment of prior undergraduate education.

If the case that you refer to is refused, there would be substantial grounds of appeal.
