"One time sponsorship"
Hi: I had read about an upcoming change in the Immigration Act that would allow Canadians a one time sponsorship of any relative. Is this in fact true and do you have any info about when such a change comes into effect.
Thanks

1. "RE: One time sponsorship"
Canada's Immigration Act presently contains these provisions, generally referred to as "One Relative Regardless of Relation."

In cases where a permanent resident is unmarried, has no close family members in Canada, and does not have any eligible members of the Family Class, sponsorship of one relative outside of the Family Class is allowed.

The rumours that you refer to are likely based on the reiteration of these provisions in discussion of the planned changes to the Act.
