"PLEASE HELP - Want to return home to visit family."
I am a U.S. Citizen married to a Canadian born Citizen. In order to help with pre-wedding plans, I entered Canada in June of 2000 as a visitor. After our wedding in July, we applied for PR in October and just recently recieved a reply stating that I am approved on principle. I still need to send them a background check, a medical exam and possibly go through interview in order to acquire Landed status. In the meantime, my application for an Employment authorization was approved, which expires in 01/2002.

My question is this: I would like to go home in February for a month to vist my family in San Diego. Will I experience any problems upon returning to Canada? What do I need to do/present to Customs in order to be allowed to return to live in Canada? Will my approval for an employment authorization make it easier for me to go back to Canada?

Thanks for your help!!

Upon your return to Canada, it would be necessary to be re-admitted as a visitor. The assessment of such admissibility is subject to the discretion of an immigration official, which creates risk. Given the existing Approval in Principle, however, I would expect that the odds are in your favour.
