"Independent Immigration Application - Questions"
Hi.

I am a foreign graduate student studying computer engineering in the USA and I am expected to receive my Ph.D. degree soon. (I have M.S. degree too) Now I plan to apply for PR in Canada and have questions. Please answer my questions and I will really appreciate your help.

1. I am currently residing in the US (not a permanent resident of
the USA, though) holding F-1 (student) visa. Should I send my
application packet to Buffalo office or my home country?

2. About work experience, I have been a half-time graduate research assistant at my school during the most of time since I came to this country. (for about 3.5 years) Will this be counted as work experience? I have been paid by the university.

3. While I was an undergraduate student in my home country,
I worked for a local company WHILE attending the school for about 1.5 years. (part-time during the school years and full-time during the vacations) Will this also be counted as work experience? Or should it be full-time work experience as a non-student?

Thank you.

Dave K.

1. If you feel you will be in the USA, and will be able to attend an interview there, if requested, then it may be advantageous to submit the case therein.

2. The critical factor regarding whether or not our office would feel that post-graduate research experience is valid would be whether or not the level of education during which the research was conducted was in excess of that required to qualify for that position according to the NOC (National Occupational Classification) manual.

3. Such experience would not generally be counted.
