Hello,

I would appreciate to know your feedback about a complex subject related to résumés submitted to recruiters; at this point of my career as CPA, I am very aware of the higher professional standards nowadays particularly in the financial markets where I have had the opportunity to develop most of my professional profile; with this idea in mind, I adapted my résumé accordingly to what seems to be the format accepted by recruiters.

I want to tell you that in most cases, I have submitted my résumé online to Head Hunters; at this point, even though I have begun to create a network of contacts, I haven’t received a formal response what looks like the common feature while performing this kind of job search.

A key issue here, is that I accept the fact that recruiters have very specific requirements for potential candidates and the fact that there are very talented colleagues working in Canada; I know for sure that this scenery requires a high professional profile based in a good deal of experience and academic background; I want to tell you also that the profile that I have developed while working mostly for major financial institutions (13 years out of 20), can be the foundation for the new professional growth I am looking for.

The search of that professional growth lies in a very important consideration: as a foreign professional (I am from Mexico City, Mexico), I am very aware of the importance of being legally entitled to work in Canada as the destination that I am interested in.

At this moment, I am doing this search on my own; I’ve been advised about the convenience of proposing to potential employers, taking care of the underlying paperwork before the immigration authority being backed up by an Immigration Attorney (prior to applying for a Work Visa before the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City) should my résumé could be approved after a job interview and being granted an sponsorship from a potential employer. Do you think that this proposal is feasible?

The essence of this consultation, refers to my confusion about the lack of response from Head Hunters in terms of formal interviews; even though I have had some initial contacts where I have informed them about my current professional and employment profiles, after presenting the aforementioned proposal, I haven’t received their comments; as an underlying consideration, I am also aware that most employers, require immediate availability from job applicants particularly foreign professionals who must hold a Work Visa.

On the other hand, I have found that there are companies that are willing to sponsor foreign professionals; although the nature of my search looks like trying to find a needle in a haystack, I would appreciate to receive your kind help by consulting you:

Do you consider that I should tell an interviewer about my status as applicant for a Work Visa (At this moment, I am a Business/Tourist US Visa holder) or I should wait for having my résumé approved first? Do you consider that by sending my résumé online, I can receive a formal feedback from potential employers likely to sponsor foreign professionals?

There is little point in going through the motions of a job interview if the employer is unaware of your status. That status may, inevitably, result in the refusal of your candidacy regardless of your qualifications. My opinion is that it should be made clear.

This may, however, be done in conjunction with information on the requirements of an employment authorization, such that the employers can make a clear judgement as to how to proceed, based on all the information.
