Dear Mr. Cohen,
First I would like to thank you for all the help you are providing to all immigrants who reach out to you. I know that from my own experience while applying through your firm and the level of proffesionalism of all the people I dealt with in your office.
Question 1 : I am planning to land some time in Feb. I will be driving from the US, my landing document expires in mid Mar. if you can summarize the landing process and what documents I should have with me other than a valid passport and the landing document
Question 2 : I applied in the US, long time ago, for political assylum no decision in the case yet, I get work permit every year. Does my atatus in the US effect in away my landing attempt.
Thank you in advance

1. "RE: Questions about Landing for Mr. Cohen"
We are certainly glad to have been able to assist you.

The landing process is generally a straight forward procedure by which the validity of landing documents are verified, the consistency of the passport information is verified, and evidence of settlement funds may be verified. As long as these documents are in order, and it is apprent that the applicant has an intention to establish him or herself in Canada as a permanent resident, the process can be concluded in 30-60 minutes.

To expedite matters, it may be helpful to have a list of your "goods to follow" prepared in advance. This is an inventory of the belongings that are not in your possession at the time of landing, but which you will want to import into Canada. You will be granted one year in which you do so without taxes or duties.

At the time of landing, it should be apparent that you are moving to Canada permanently. As such, you should be in possession of sufficient belongings and assets for this purpose.

This is particulary important for those applicants who are landing from the USA, where they hold some sort of status. If it appears that you are landing, then returning to the USA, your landing may be barred.

You may be asked questions such as the following to determine if it is your intention to relocate permanently to Canada:

1. Have you terminated your employment in the USA?

2. Have you sought a position in Canada? Have you found a position in Canada?

3. Have you arranged lodging in Canada?

The amount of assets and belongings in your possession may also be used as an indication of your intention to move to Canada.
