"Residing in Canada while processing permanent resident visa "
Hi there!

I am planning on moving to Canada and marrying a Canadian which will sponsor me under the family class. My question is how can I live in Canada during my application process for permanent resident? If I get a visitor's visa for 6 months and after it expires, if the immigration officer does not renew it then what are the chances that I have to go back home until my application is complete?

Also, during my stay in Canada under the visitor's visa, if my fiance and I both have adequate funds will I have to find work? I ask this because my career (dental hygienist) requires licensing which first requires permanent resident status or citizenship? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Natalia

If you are admitted to Canada as a visitor, and subsequently initiate a spousal sponsorship application, it would generally be possible to process the application inland, and remain within Canada for the duration of such processing. Your status as a visitor would typically be extended for the duration of the processing of the case.

You would not be obliged to obtain employment in Canada, and would, in fact, require an employment authorization to obtain such employment.
