"Advised English Language Exam (IELTS)"
I submitted my immigration paperwork in the month of October, 2000 in Kiev, Ukraine. In December I obtained a letter with my preliminary assesment saying that I was scheduled an interview in 8 months. However, the Canadian Immigration Service in here highly recommended me take a British Councile English Language Exam what "may expedite my immigration case". I would appreciate very much to know your opinion how the results of this exam can REALLY expedite my case and shall I take it?

Thanks for your time and help,
Alex

Alex,

I had that same question as you. The feedback that i received was that one of the reasons for interview was to ascertain the communication skills in english. It is not mandatory however. Neverthless i appeared for IELTS exams and sent them my scores while sending my application. The exams typically are half a day affairs, they have 4 areas for testing and they give individual scores for each and a composite score. The scores go from 1 to 9,
9 is the highest score and i guess a score of 5 or 6, they consider as a average.I believe that for emigrating to New Zealand & Australia IELTS is mandatory. I hope that helps.

IELTS examinations can influence the decision to waive a selection interview and, as a reuslt, can expedite an application.

A rough guide is that a 5.0 equates to Well, and a 7.0 equates to fluent. The evaluation of the IELTS examinations scores, and the applicant's language skills, however, is based on the discretion of an immigration official.
