"Enquiry for a startup company plan and temporary work permit till then..."
I have a bunch of questions - thanks for you patience and assistance in advance (Also, I was not sure whether this should go into this forum or career forum).

I am currently in US with a H1 B visa (work permit). I am evaluating the possibilities of having a company focusing on web based development and ASP (web based application services). As it requires high technical infrastructure and most of the market will be based on US, I need to plan for long term settlement in either US or Canada or Australia.

1) If I look for permanent residency in Canada, will I be able to travel in and out of Canada to US?
2) This starts in evaluation mode, I need to work part-time in some company till things become promising. Can I propose a residency even at this stage instead of getting a work permit? (or does application to residency require a minimum of three years stay with work permit always)?
3) For a start-up, do I need to provide heavy revenue background or a business plan is sufficient?
4) How long does it take to get a work permit and then a residency?
5) Can I process almost all this from US or should I do it from my home country?

Thanks
Gowri.

1. As long as you have the proper admission to the USA, and do not forfeit your Canadian status during your absence, yes.

2. If your qualifications are otherwise sufficient, you can apply for permanent resident status at this time.

3. If you intend to apply for immigration on the basis of the intended business, then you would be required to provide a business plan. As a skilled worker, this would not apply.

4. The duration of an employment authorization authorization application is dependent, greatly, on the requirement of validation of the job offer. A review of the job offer (even if it is a job offer from a company that you have previously established) would be required to make this assessment.

5. If you will be resident in the USA for a sufficient duration, or can return for an interview, it can be done therein.
