"request for Police Clearances"

I am applying for permanent residency under the Family class rules ( spouse/common-law/conjugal partner) from the UK.

In February 2003, I down-loaded the PDF files that included the Police clearance document - then called "AppendixA". On that form, the requirement states that POlice clearance certificates are required.. quote "where he or she has lived for six months or longer in the past 10 years."

When I now down-load the documents, the form is now called Appendix B. Now, the requirement is for ... quote "where he or she has lived for six months or longer since reaching the age of 18".

In my case ( I am 56) and have spent many years overseas, this would mean getting clearances from countries in East Africa and the Caribbean , where I lived 30 years ago!

Can you let me know when the 10 year limit changed and do I need to almost start again on the process... it will take months probably to get certictes from Tanzania , Kenya, St Vincent, WI and Barbados!

Many thanks

martin p

There was no specific date of change. The change took place gradually, as more and more visa offices started requesting clearances from the age of 18. The safest approach would be to start obtaining any outstanding clearances, in case a request is made. However, you can also write to the visa office to request specific instruction.
