"Background Security Check"

   Hi,

I'd appreciate if anyone can shed light on why it took CIC 6 months to start my background sec check? Following are the details from my CAIPS filecheck report:

Application Recieved: Sept 6, 2001
Selection Decision Made: Sept 11, 2002 (Interview Waived)
Medical Decision Made: Jan 24, 2003 (Medical was sent mid-Nov 2002)
FBI Police Certificates Accepted: Feb 25, 2003 (It was the 2nd PC request - sent to CIC on 10th Jan 2003)
Backgound Check Inititated: March 6, 2003

I thought background checks are started right after Selection Decision. Hence I thought that 8 mos have already been spent on my background check. From the CAIPS report, it seems that the Background Check is only 2 months old and was started after the FBI PC were accepted. At this rate, I don't think I will get a final decision till Oct 2003 at best (I am from Pakistan and read in this group that background checks of citizens of Pakistan will at least take 8 months)

I'd appreciate any input.

Regards,

ZAK

Neither the immigration department nor CSIS reveal any details on the processing of background clearances, so it would be difficult to provide an accurate estimate of the reason for the delay. What is known is that the increase in the scope of background clearances since September 11th has seen an increase in the duration for the average background clearance to be started and concluded.
