"How long does for the passport to be returned?"
 
   I am already in Canada awaiting passport request from Detroit. Does anybody have an idea how long they are taking to stamp and return the passports. And also what is the procedure on sending them. Can it be done from outside the US and which courier is recommended?

   It takes on average of 3-4 weeks for the passport to be returned from a consulate in the USA. You should contact the consulate only if a month has passed since you submitted your passports and they have not been returned.

Any courier company can deliver the passports to the consulate, however you should include a copy of the consulate's letter within the package as this will avoid problems when the package passes through Customs.

If you wish to have your passports returned by courier, you will need to include a pre-paid courier envelop when you send your passports; otherwise the consulate will return them to you through Registered Mail. Furthermore, the consulate can only return the passports to an address in the USA or Canada.

   thank you for your response. The Consulate has sent instructions that only FEDEX is to be used and that the service standard is 10 business days if return envelope is used. Otherwise its 15 business days in Standard mail.

   You were right as usual.

I was relying too much on the written word of the CIC office. It has been more than 17 business days since I sent them the Passports by FEDEX (with prepaid Return Envelope). Still havnet heard from them. Should I try contacting them after a month via Fax?
