"Separated from fiance :( "
LAST EDITED ON 14-Dec-00 AT 00:45 AM (GMT)

My fiance is a Canadian citizen living in Ontario, Canada. I am an American citizen living in California. We plan to get married in the future, but are not ready to do so yet. Under the family class of immigration, you are required to get married within 3 months. We plan to eventually get married in the US, which will take at least a year to plan, then plan on moving to Canada to live after we are married.

In the meantime, we are separated and miserable. I have been there to visit him on a few occasions. I was wondering if there was any way that he and I can be together in Canada before we are married. We are really, really desperate. We want to be together. I would have enough finances to enable me to stay there with him, but haven't found anything that would be legal about doing that. I would appreciate any suggestions or help you can offer.

Thank You!

You are required to marry within 90 days of landing in Canada when sponsored as a fiance(e), and not within 90 days of the submission of the application.

In either case, you can seek temporary admission to Canada as a visitor, tempoarary worker, or student in the interim.
