"How long does it take?"

   Dear Sir,

Thank you for hosting such an execellent site!
I have a question to ask though.

I'm planning to land in Canada in couple of months and my grilfriend is going with me on Student or Tourist visa. We plan to get married very soon after I landed. After I satisfied the income requirement to sponsor her and submitted as an "inland" application, how long does it take for her to start working and travelling in/out of canada?

many thanks in advance,

J.

The current average processing time is 10 months to obtain approval as sponsor. A notice of an approval to sponsor must be issued before the sponsored relative can apply for a work permit. Although it is not illegal for your sponsored relative to travel outside the country during the process application, it is not suggested. This is due to potential problems returning to Canada.

   Dear Sir,

From my understanding of your reply, it's a 2-step process? I need to get approved as a sponsor before I can submit the "in-land" family class PR application? 10 months for me to get approved as a sponsor and another ? months before my fiancee can become a PR?

Thanks a lot for the reply..

The estimate would be in addition to the time for assessment of the sponsor. Delays for such are generally less than 2-3 months.
