"adoption and immigration"

I am a Canadian citizen living and working abroad for the past 15 years. My wife is Indonesian andhave no children. We are planning to move back to Canada in 2 years and apply of landed immigrant for my spouse. We are also considering adopting a niece. We were told that immigration policies are not child friendly and that we should consult an immigration officer before adopting. Where can we find more information on adoption and eligibility for immigration? and what should we do?

If an adoption is legally completed while you are in Indonesia, and can be satisfactorily documented during the processing of the case, the complication associated is not considerable. Seeking to adopt a child from within Canada once your sponsorship application is concluded is much more difficult, and involves the intervention of child welfare officials in the province of your residence.
