"background check"

Dear Mr Cohen,

I went through my medicals about four months back. I know that background checks take a long time but I don't have an idea how long. How long does the background check take and when does this waiting time start? Is that right after the interview (or its waiver)?

There is no fixed duration of the background clearance. The length will depend on the individual circumstances of the case including countries of rfesidence and occupational history. Since the events of 11/9/2001, there has been a marked increase in the average duration, however.

Our experience has seen various stages of initiation of the clearance, between paper screening and the selection decision.
