"simple questions"
To Whom It May Concern,

I am a Canadian citizen temporarily living in the United States where I just finished obtaining some post-doctoral training. I plan to return to Canada with my new fiancee, who is American. We plan to get married in March in Alberta, and plan to open a veterinary clinic in Edmonton in April where I will put my new skills to work.

I would like to apply to sponsor my fiancee as an immigrant, and have a few questions:

1. Can I do this while myself living outside of Canada?

2. If my income was temporarily low due to my student status, will I be able to sponsor her? Because we wish to open a clinic together, I will have none of the usual check stubs, etc. Just a balance sheet with more assets than liabilities.

3. Is there a better way for her to immigrate to Canada, given the above situation?

Please answer these three questions, or pass them along to someone who can. I look forward to your reply.

Thank you.

1. "RE: simple questions"
1. It is not generally possible to sponsor a fiance(e) while resident outside of Canada. This is allowed in some cases of spousal sponsorship in which the sponsor can demonstrate an imminent intention of returning to Canada.

2. In the case of a fiance(e) sponsorship, demonstration of sufficient income is a requirement. In the case of a spousal sponsorship, this can be waived.

3. If she has prior experience and training, she may wish to consider an application in the skilled worker program.
