"Very confused!"

   Hope someone can help!
I am a british citizen. I recently married my Canadian fiancee here in the UK. She has lived with me in England for a year now.(her parents are british-canadians in Alberta so she was able to get a british passport to live with me very easily). We have filled out the family class kit (which is very confusing to fill out when the scenario is the sponsor living in another country!). We are sending it off as soon as my police clearance/convictions history form arrives. (iam enclosing all the fees). I would like to know the approx times required from now til I receive my PR visa. It seems a routine case. I am a graduate, married to Canadian with no convictions and a good resume.
And can I live in Canada with my wife before I receive this visa. Because of University she needs to be back by Sept 2003. Thats over 10 months from now. I know I couldmn't work but is it legal to travel over and stay there until the visas come???
Thank-you

Dan

The expected duration of such a case processed in the UK at present would be approximately 12-16 months, depending on the requirement for an interview in the case.

You may seek temporary admission to Canada if you wish to return here with your spouse prior to the conclusion of your permanent resident application.

An alternative may also be to process the case inland if you know that you need to return to Canada prior to the expected conclusion of the application. If married to a Canadian and within Canada, then an application for sponsorship may be submitted within Canada, as the marriage would constitute sufficient Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds to allow for such. Such an inland application is processed entirely within Canada, unlike a standard sponsorship which is generally concluded overseas.

In such a case, the temporary status of the applicant will generally be extended for the duration of the application process. Also, once an approval in principle is obtained, an open employment authorization may be obtained.
