"Which consulate to apply to?"
Dear Dr. Cohen:

Finding this forum and your website has been of invaluable help. Congratulations for the good work! My questions are:

1. I am an engineer from Venezuela with intentions of applying in the Independent (professional) category. The consular office with jurisdiction over Venezuela is in Bogota, Colombia. I want to know if it is a good idea to send my application to the Buffalo office in hopes of a shorter processing time, or if this would be inadvisable. I would have no problem in traveling to the USA for the interview were it necesary.

2.I have studied very carefully the application form and have compiled all the required documents. I have recieved a positive assessment from CCPE which I am including. I am planning on completing and filing my application without hiring a lawyer. Is it a good idea to include a cover letter explaining why I beleive I am a suitable candidate? What about including a letter of recomendation from a very good friend who has also immigrated from Venezuela and now is successfully living in Toronto? Or should I stick to the list of requirements and nothing more?

3. Even though I have considered carefully doing it myself, you certainly understand the importance of doing it right! Is it possible to hire your services for a consultation via tlf. or to have my papers expertlly reviewed by your office before submiting them? (I am going to do your online evaluation now)

Thank you very much for your valuable advice.
Ernesto

It would not necessarily be advantageous to submit the application in the USA. Whereas the USA will almost certainly interview you, Bogota may waive your interview.

A letter outlining the score on each criterion, and the basis of such can help an application. The immigration official would be required to address any discrepancies prior to a refusal. A letter from a friend is not likely to have a significant impact on the case.

It is generally much more difficut to become involved in a case at a later stage as opposed to an earlier stage. You may, however, feel free to contact our office in the event that you require professional assistance.
