Yes, all Canadian processing centers receiving an application for Canadian Permanent Residency, in any category (including Family Class) will send an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR).

This AOR acknowledges that the application was received, and provides an indication as to whether or not the Canadian Government plans to proceed with the application.

In our experience the processing center serving the Trindad and Tobaggo area will send out the AOR in aproximately 4-6 weeks.

If the AOR has not been received in that time frame, then a status inquirery would certainly be in order, to verify status and receipt of the application. When requesting such a status update, for the reason of lack of AOR, it is a good idea to provide proof of delivery of the original application, if a traceable courier service was used to deliver it to the embassy.
