"Landing in Canada - Minimum Period of Stay"
Please advice:

- Understand that one has to stay for a minumum period of 183 days in a span of 365 days (calculated from the dated of Landing) to maintain the permanent resident status.

Can this minimum period be spread over 3/4 visits to Canada ? Is there a requirement that one has to stay for a minimum period after his first landing ? Is it fine if the landing is done before the expiry date of the landing papers and the immigrant immediately gets out of Canada only to return after some time to resume his stay in Canada ?

- If the principal applicant lands before the expiry date of the landing papers, but the dependant do not, can the fact that the Principal applicant landed before the expiry of the papers be sufficient ground to seek extension of the validity of the papers of the dependents.

Yes ? No ? If Yes, how difficult (time/complexity) is it to get the extension for the dependent applicants ?

- How much time does it take at the minimum to complete initial formalities upon landing. This is to arrive at the minimum period of stay during the visit done merely for landing.

- Is it fine if the settlement funds check is carried and shown the immigration authorities for entry. Does it need to necessarily banked ?

1. "RE: Landing in Canada - Minimum Period of Stay"
The 183 day period can be calculated within any given 12 month period, and not necessarily only from the date of landing. As such, the application of the 183 day rule would not be violated if the days in which you resided in Canada were non-consecutive.

There is no minimum duration for which a permanent resident must stay in Canada in order to be eligible to subsequently depart. There are no formal requirements that must be conducted which would established a minimum stay. Application for medical coverage and a SIN may be done in a matter of a few days or weeks. At the time of landing, a bank statement would generally suffice to demonstrate necessary assets

Any applicant that does not land within the validity of landing documents would be required to re-apply, or to seek sponsorship.
