"After marrying, when will I be able to work???"

I am British and my fiance is Canadian. We have been together for 2 years and plan to marry at Christmas in Canada. We are both currently residing in our respective countries.
I have a few questions if you don't mind...!
We plan to marry while I am on 'holiday' in Canada, then I will return to the UK. Will this cause a problem or delay the processing time? Would the paperwork be processed quicker if I was to be residing in Canada? (Although of course I could only stay for 90 days max on a visitor's visa).
Once we are married, how long will it take for me to be able to legally work (open work authorisation??)? It is this that we are most concerned about. I know it takes a long while to become a citizen, but I am primarily concerned with how long it will take for me to be issued a Social Insurance Number (will I get a temporary SIN?).
Please advise us of the quickest and simplest route for us to take, considering our circumstances. We have had such trouble in gaining clear answers and really appreciate any help offered.
Many thanks.
Sophie

If your Canadian fiancee submits the application to sponsor you under the Family Class Category inland (within Canada), and you are subsequently married, you may than receive a preliminary acceptance usually refered to as an "Approval in Principle".

The Approval in Principle is not the final approval, of course, but it will usually allow the applicant to begin working in Canada, if you happen to be present in Canada at that time, as a visitor. The Approval in Principle is often issued within 4-6 months, on average.

In other cases, once the Family Class application has been completely approved (usually after aproximately 14 months, on average), then the applicant may land in Canada and begin working at that time.
