"Visitors Visa from Thailand..is it possible in reasonable time?"

   Dear Sir....

I would prefer to have my girlfriend from Thailand come to Canada with a visitors visa......however I have heard that process is indeed very long and usually not succesful. Is this true? How long is the process once all documents have been received?

My other option is to bring her on a family class as a fiance with the intent to marry within 3 months. How long is this process once all documents have been received?

My intent is to have her come as a visitor FIRST....to see if she could love this country as much as I do.....then for her to go back home and get everything in order for a life in Canada..idealistic....perhaps! I just dont relish the idea of having to wait upwards of a year for her to come back. What do you think is the best way for me to accomplish my goals here?

Thanking you in advance for your response.

Admissibility as a visitor is determined on the basis of the discretion of an immigration official. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict, in advance, if any given individual will be admitted. This can be a difficult situation in cases such as these, in which close family members or loved ones, spouses, and fiancees wish to spend time together in Canada.

Of the Visitor Visas that are issued in such cases, they are usually issued to individuals whose sole intent upon entering Canada at this time is that of a tourist, or to visit friends, family, or relatives.

If an applicant for a Visitor Visa applies in person at the processing center, the decision is usually made the same day. If the person applies by mail, the decision is usually granted within 2-6 weeks.

Applications for permanent residency, under the Family Class category immigration is usually made a priority. The world wide average processing time in that category tends to average 14 months.
