Being out of status in a country (such as the USA) can sometimes negatively affect the outcome of an application for Canadian Permanent Residency on the grounds of "criminality". Sometimes applicants are in a "gray-zone" in which they are in between status, and they have applied for renewed status, and are simply awaiting a decision. In such cases an applicant may be required to provide evidence of application for renewed status in a country, to the Canadian Government, in order to avoid refusal of the application for Canadian Permanent Residency.
