"Processing time"

   Hi there,
My husband and I applied for Canadian residency in May 2001. Currently we live in the U.S. and our application is being processed in Buffalo. We received the letter of acknowledhement with the file number in July 2001 and were intimated that within 20 weeks from then i.e.(July 2001), we would receive the letter of assesment.
Today I called the consulate in Buffalo to check on the status of my application and I was told that the processing time has been changed from 20 weeksto 40 weeks for the initial assesment. I am not sure if my application would now be processed with this change in rules or within the same time frame that was applicable when I applied.
Am really confused and pissed off. Could somebody please help?:-(
Thanks,
Nikki.

The time frame quoted earlier by the visa office no longer applies. Our experience has been that a 30-40 week delay currently applies. The upcoming holiday season will not help that, unfortunately.
