"Police Certificate"

   Dear Mr. Cohen,
Thanks for this wonderfull site.

I have a very unusual question. Myself and my husband had applied for canadian visa in july this year. For getting the police clearance from USA we did fingerprinting and sent it to FBI. For my husband they were ok, but for me it got rejected 3 times saying the fingerprints were unreadable by the machine. Now I have received a letter from FBI that Canadian authorities accept other form of clearance in case the fingerprints are not readable. Do you have any idea about this other form Police Clearance ? Whom should I contact about getting police clearance ? Also do we need to get police clearance from India since on the canadian embassy website and also on your site it is written that, do not attempt to get police certificate from a list of countries on which India is there. Please guide me.

Regards,

Waty

The visa office may allow you to conduct your police clearance on the basis of a name search alone, as opposed to fingerprint verification. You should advise the visa office of the circumstances, including a copy of the letter from the FBI, and request that they advise you if this will suffice.

Mr. Cohen! I have a question regarding Police Certificates. I have applied for Canadian immigration as an independent immigrant before through the Buffalo processing post. I did obtain the Record of Landing, but did not land in Canada before the expiration date and returned the Record of Landing to the Canadian government. One of the documents I had presented to the Buffalo office was a Police Certificate from my home country. I would like to reapply for Canadian immigration once more. But it is a real pain to obtain the Police Certificate again. I have not gone back to my home country since the time of my previous application. So, it seems that the same certificate could be used to prove that I did not have any criminal convictions back home. What do you think happened to the Police Certificate they had on file? Can I refer to it in my new application saying that they already have it? Or, if not, can I retrieve it somehow? Thanks.
