"options for temporary immigration...."

Hi, we are an Australian family interested in living and working in Canada for 12- 24 months. We have read all we can find on immigration into Canada but are still unsure as to the best options for us.
We have completed the free assessment and did not qualify as permanent residents. We have considered coming for a shorter period (6 months) as 'visitors' but do not feel this would be ideal. We have enough funds to support ourselves for the period we wish to stay, but my husband would really like to work while we are over there.
My husband is qualified in 2 trades as well as holding several other licenses, but does not hold a degree of any description. I am currently studying in Au and would like to continue my studies, would it be an option for myself to enter as a student, which I believe would qualify my husband to obtain an employment authorization? What would the pro's and con's on this option?
Obviously there are quite a few other considerations, I would be happy to provide any additional information.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
(we have been unsuccessful making contact by email)
kind regards.

If you are approved for admission to a Canadian academic institution, and obtain a student authorization, then your spouse would be granted an open employment authorization. This would appear to serve your needs, but you should be aware that the tuition costs for foreign students is generally considerably higher than that for Canadians.

It would appear, however, that a validated job offer would otherwise be required for eligibility for an employment authorization. Validation may be a difficult procedure in your case.
