"Applying for permanent resident status from outside of Canada"
My husband is a Canadian Citizen and I am an American Citizen. We are currently living in the U.S. and I am looking to apply for permanent resident status in Canada from the U.S. and move to Canada after my status is approved. The guidelines say that he can apply for me from outside of Canada if he is "able to demonstrate an intention to reside in Canada by the time the sponsored family member lands in Canada". What does that mean exactly? What documents are proof besides a work offer in Canada? Does a letter of intent from him count as proof? Also, does he have to meet the low income cutoff requirements if he is living outside of Canada and getting paid in American dollars?

Thank you for your time.

Lori

A work offer would be excellent proof of an imminent intent to return to Canada. Other documents which may suffice as proof may include evidence of comunications with prospective employers, evidence of an intent to resign from employment in the USA, evidence of an intent to sell property in the USA or acquire property in Canada, etc.

In this type of spousal sponsorship, it would not generally be necessary to meet the low income cutoff.

What suffices as evidence of the examples you gave to prove intent? Would a cover letter and resume sent to a prospective employer be suffice? Or a letter of resignation that my husband prepares, would that count as evidence of intent to resign?

Also on another note, if we begin the process of applying from the U.S., once that application is submitted, if my husband gets a job offer, is it possible to move to Canada and still continue the application from that point? Or do we have to start over with a landing status, etc?

We thank you very much for your time, it is greatly appreciated.
