your stay in Iran will not cause problem. the key point is they want to be satisfied that you are going to stay in Canada after immigration of your wife. You should proof it for them. However if you tend to leave Canada it may be indicated for them that you have no tie to Canada. As your stay in iran is reasonable ( for marriage) it shouldn't cause any problem
Did they only asked you to submit the questionnaire ? It seems a bit strange if they ask only for the questionnaire to be filled. Please copy the letter you received from the embassy. if you were asked to submit only the questionnaire then your application shouldn't take too much long. It means that your file is complete and you are probably in final stages.
my time line is almost the same as you. no one can predict how long it will take time...
we would be happy if you can give your time line more accurate so we can share it...

Finally Damascus office answered our e-mail for updating our status on sep 22.... I am wondering if we didn't e-mail them when they would call us?Huh?

we wrote that we did not receive anything for 6 months and we are worry about postal systems...
their answer:

This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada.  Please send the following documents:

 - Copy of your sponsor's Canadian status as permanent resident card
- Complete the attached residency questionnaire with your sponsor/ husband.

 Please note that you have to comply with this request within 45 days from the date of this email. Failure to provide the requested documents could result in the refusal of your application.

 Your file is being processed in Damascus. No representations, faxes, telephone calls or correspondence can or will be answered by these Embassies; all inquires must be sent directly to the visa office in Damascus.

Please quote your file number, as well as your telephone & fax numbers on all correspondence and on every document you send to us.


So they need my PR card not a copy of my passport.... that is better...

one step ahead, congrats it is the same email we got most of us for example myself and eli and some other on this thread, make sure you send them a copy of your Permanent resident card and not the card and try your best to fill carefully the residency questionnaire which will prove that some of the info you provide is still the same or if there is any changes  and keep a copy for yourself just in case congrats and good luck soon

As they did not request a copy of my Passport with entry and exit stamps... is it rational to mention that I was in Iran for 3 month??
or should I just mention it and provide them with the wedding and honeymoon photos?

happy that you got this email. it means you are closer to the end.
I read the email they sent to you. they asked for your permanent resident STATUS !!!! are you sure it is equal to permanent resident CARD ? Have you previously send them a copy of your permanent resident card ? If yes, then they are not probably asking for it again.
Please ask some experts what they are asking for exactly and send only requested documents.
About your question regarding your travel to iran, please be advised that you MUST tell them that you traveled to IRAN because there is a part in the questionnaire that asks if you left Canada since the time of application. in that section you must tell them that you did and write your reasons. I believe your reasons are logical. Please let me know as soon as you send the requested docs.

Dear Zohreh;
Congrajulations it seems your case is also open now.Zohreh jan when you are filling the questionnair try to fill everything. It has many question regarding "My sponser has most recently been physically residing in canada from ---- to ----" or in the last page "please give the name of the countries that you sponser has resided ....................."or I last saw my sponser in ..(place)...... from...... to.... .
so try to be accurrate mention everything, you don't know maybe in future notice they ask for your copy of passport and if you don't mention anything it will be labeled as mispresentation,and it is a very big offence.Try to avoid that please.
Just tell them the whole story, I also went to Iran for 3 weeks in May, it is completly reasonbale we have been apart for months and it is logical that we go and visit them!! it is what my laywer said "it shows that you have feelings for each other".

The Permanent Resident Card is the official proof of your status as a permanent resident in Canada.

they specifically asked you for 2 THINGS:
1.Copy of your sponsor's Canadian status as permanent resident card
( A PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS CAN BE PROVED BY 2 THINGS IN CANADA: THE PERMANENT CARD  OR THE SHEET THAT THE PERSON SIGN ON THE AIRPORT WHEN THEYLAND IN CANADA. IT IS VERY THIN WHITE COLOR THAT YOU WILL NEED LATER WHEN YOU APPLY FOR YOUR CITIZENSHIP THAT YOUR SPONSOR SHOULD HAVE SAVED SOMEWHERE SAFE JUST PHOTOCOPY AND SEND) HOWEVER THEY ASKED FOR A COPY OF PERMANENT CARD
- Complete the attached residency questionnaire with your sponsor/ husband
IN THIS FORM PLEASE DONT LEAVE GAPS IN DATES THEY ASKED ABOUT ALMOST EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU AND YOUR SPONSOR JUST STATE DATES VISITS TO YOUR COUNTRY EVERYTHING CORRECTLY AND KEEP A COPY FOR YOURSELF.

In the RQ form, you must mention accurate dates and information based on your sponsor's Iranian passport. They might ask sending copy of your sponsor's Iranian passport. However,  the possibility of it is low; but do not risk. I had similar situation, I was in Iran for 6 months. They just want to make sure that you have plan to reside in Canada, So if you provide enough documents, they would satisfy.

Thanks for your advises and comments.... yes I also think that saying the truth is the best way... I will send a letter from university which shows my current status as a grad student which indicate that I am and will be living in Canada...

in the e-mail they clearly said PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD... I sent the copy of my PR card and also the landing paper once and I really don't know why they are asking for it again... but I will send a copy of both (pr card and landing paper) again......

It may take 10 days for me to collect all proofs I need ( wedding and honeymoon pics and invoices, Translation of invitation card showing the date of wedding in July, my return ticket to Canada, letter from university and........), so I will let u know the day I will sent the docs to Damascus...

Dear Zohreh,
The email that I received from Damascus is for my husband (sponsorship) not me (sponsor),is it same for you?
I scanned my passport pages for my husband. He printed, filled the form and signed it and sent in via DHL today.
I recommend you not to send any pictures or the invitation, they didn't ask for anything just write a perfect cover letter and explain everything inside (about your wedding, honeymoon, and explain that you are currently a graduate student in Canada)and at the end mention that documents are available upon your request. Sending too many documents will make the case complicated, this is my lawyer advice he even tell me not to send translation of my passport pages.
I just give you some hits and ideas but if you believe it is better to send the documents send them,they won't ask you why you send more!!
