In form IMM5563E section B, under electronic notes you can choose CAIPS or GCMS or you can choose both. Do you know what exactly is the difference between them and can we send them by e-mail.

You can order GCMS notes anytime once your file is at the visa office, of course if you order them too early they may not say very much at all. Given that it arrived at Damascus in February 2011, I think it would be very helpful to order them and see what they say. Ordering the notes will not affect your processing at Damascus as long as you check off "GCMS" and not "visa file" on the order form. GCMS is just the Global Case Management System and the people at the Access to Information and Privacy Request office in Ottawa have access to it. They will essentially simply print off printscreens of your case that they see in the system.

GCMS is just the new version of CAIPS. It was rolled out about a year or less ago (depending on the VO) and replaced CAIPS. So I think even if you select CAIPS they will send you the notes from GCMS, as that's the system they use at Damascus unless someone can tell me I'm wrong and they're still using CAIPS over there. Anyway. You can select to receive them via email instead of by mail and you can also fax to the ATIP office instead of mailing to that address in Ottawa. I've heard of people emailing it too but I don't have quick access to a scanner so have never done it.

Hello Folks,
I have called the Embassy on Sunday, and I chatted with the receptionist, I asked her about the application if they send them out or if the embassy is open, she confirmed to me that the Embassy is open and all files are here! also she said if they transfer files they will send emails to everyone regarding that so I guess nothing will change in 2 days! so let us be positive and supportive. My colleague of 2 months in damascus emailed me 10 mins ago, according to her things are as they were when i left except busier,
there is no sign of closure or transfer , although the system update and the qouta of 2011 has made things difficult for them,
infact she told me things are more calm and the processing is going by smoother, just busy
