Also guys, I know e-cas is not reliable at all, but should I be worried that me and my husband's just says "application received", while some of you with about the same timeline as me have gone to "in process"? Is this bad?!!

Hi vivi2,
No it is not bad at all, the e-cas rarely make an update for the cases status, I know two friends who became citizens in canada and their application still saying " your applecation in process".

No they don't, but that's actually how long inlanders wait for sponsor approval. And let's not even mention the parent and grandparent applications that are already in queue.....those you have to wait a FEW years for sponsorship approval.
i don't think anyone waited 1 year for sponsor approval;

You're totally right but I would just add that as far as the CSQs are concerned, it's not quite "adding three to four weeks between step 1 and step 2." CPC-M will forward the PR portion of the file to the VO when they do their part, which is approving the sponsor. The VO, in this case Damascus, is probably not going delay looking at your file just because of the CSQ, especially if you have the CSQ application ready and just insert the sponsorship approval letter from CPC-M right before mailing it to le Ministere de l'immigration et des communautes culturelles (it takes even less time to get the CSQ than to get the sponsorship approval from CIC). From what I've read about others' experiences, the VOs are not going to let the file sit there until they get a copy of the CSQ, but of course they are not going to issue the visa until they get the copy either. Of course if the VO is anything like mine, they'll lose however many copies of the CSQ you send to them and then send you an Initial Assessement letter saying they need that from you to continue processing.  Roll Eyes In any case, I would not say that Quebec applicants are necessarily delayed because of the CSQ issue. It depends.......sigh.
here is quote from CIC website:

"There are two steps in processing family sponsorship applications. In order to know the total approximate time it may take for your application to be processed, ADD the time in step 1 to the time in step 2 (the two steps are consecutive)."

they clearly emphasize that the TOTAL processing time is step 1 (sponsor approval) PLUS step 2 (the process in the specific embassy)....so the 13 months for Damascus is from the moment Damascus received the file NOT from the moment the application was initially sent to Mississauga or the sponsor got the approval letter....unfortunately, Damascus does not really let people know when their file was received, it's a guess based on others' experience....also, for the Quebec applicants another 3-4 weeks are added between step 1 and step 2, for the process of the CSQ...hope it's clear

vivi you don't have to be worried, ours said (application received ) for a whole year Smiley after that it changed to (in process) and in few days my husband got his PPR.

siavashf our case was not extra ordinary, it was just a normal case because we finished in one year and the processing time now is 13 months , so we were expecting to finish within the 13 months wait.
when I sent our application to Mississauga that time step 1 was 30 days , so they received our application in Mississauga on November 2, 2010, and on November 29, 2010 they sent me (I'm the sponsor) a letter in the mail stating that I was approved as a sponsor for my husband and they wrote that our application will be forwarded to Syria .therefore, Damascus received our application on Dec 6, 2010, and on the top of that letter they wrote my client ID #.

As for Step 2 , it took us one year and 21 days , from Dec 6,2010 and my husband got his ppr on Dec 27,2011.

Many thanks for ur clarification.
