Crossing back into Canada with my American wife

Greetings everyone!

This is my first posting on this forum, so here goes...
Here is the situation...

I am a Canadian citizen who married my American wife here in Wisconsin in October 2010. I have permanent resident status through a spousal sponsorship in the United States and have been here in the US legally all along. I have not been in Canada since September 2010. My wife and I are planning to visit my family back in Sudbury in September for a couple of weeks then head back to the US for another week or so before flying out of Washington DC (after visiting her parents) to Spain where we plan to volunteer on organic farms for awhile. I am concerned that Canadian border officials at the Sault Ste. Marie crossing will give us a hard time because they may figure we are planning to move to Canada permanently which we are not, at this time, since my wife does not have any status in Canada (we plan to eventually have her apply for permanent resident status but that is still perhaps years off). The lease on our apartment here in Wisconsin is done at the end of August and I am quitting my job at that time so we will not be able to show a permanent residence here in the States or gainful employment. We might not even be able to show flight tickets to Spain since my wife's friend who works for an airline is arranging stand-by tickets for us that we are to pick up when we arrive in Washington DC. If I were a border guard, I would be awfully suspicious of all this (especially since I will have a carload of stuff I am bringing back to store at my folks' place).

How should we handle this situation? Do you think she could be refused entry? She came to visit me in Canada last year (before we were married) and stayed for over two months but she returned to the States after that. Could she be provided with a temporary 10 day visa or something like that? Any suggestions on what to divulge or what documentary evidence could be provided to ensure entry into Canada would be appreciated! Thanks!
