can you please advise as to the process an american citizen would have to undertake in order to immigrate to Canada as a permanent resident if he has a 20 year old criminal record for a minor offense...

he is american and dating a canadian and they are planning on wanting to live in Canada and they are looking at getting married soon

what does he have to do first in terms of being accepted into Canada considering that old criminal record.?

can you tell me the process
