Hi,
I landed yesterday. I am planning to apply for credit card after i get my PR, Health card and sin card. Does anyone know which bank can provide credit card to new immigrant ? and yes which bank is best for new immigrants?
My spouse recommended TD because of their services and extended hrs. any inputs will be appreciated.

It would pick either TD or Scotia. But any of the big five banks will be able to help you. |

You might have a problem as you have no credit in Canada but it is possible to either get a secured card or to get an extra card on your spouses account.

RBC gave me an unsecured cc with a $1000 limit and 19.99% interest through their new immigrant program (my partner and I also have other accounts with them) and I had no Canadian credit.

These are the major banks in Canada: TD, Scotiabank, Bank of Montreal, CIBC, RBC, HSBC I know one can apply a HSBC bank account from any branches in the home country. |

We landed on June and upon activation of our joint account ( opened a joint account from my home country two months before landing) Scotia Bank gave to both my spouse and myself an unsecured credit card with $1000 limit. All transactions on the account are free for the first year. Hope this helps. Amissa |

Capital One will give you secured card (a credit card backed-up by a deposit). I think Scotia Bank can give you a better deal. TD Bank only gives $500, generally, and sometimes secured, too. |

Hi Amissa, BZ Mom and Jiyamano,
Last month, I visited Canada and went to open an account at RBC, I found out that they do have programs for NEWCOMERS. I personnally, like RBC. However, the other 4 banks are stable too.
The point is that no matter which banking institution we pick, there is an opportunity to start out our credit in Canada.
