I do not think that gas prices in Canada are cheap, especially when there is a vacation or a long weekend, it suddenly rises 10 CENTS OR 12 CENTS at one time, but it takes days to drop cent by cent. and yes, the car insurance is terribly terribly high and it takes years of driving experience in Canada to get a reasonable price even when you have 10 years of driving experience and even when you provide them with documents showing you never did a single accident in your home country!

The link is great for an inclination and guide to what can be expected.
