COPR question

I did my Canada landing in Febraury 2010 and came back to US and havent gone back to Canada since. The expiration/validity date on my COPR is April 2014.

Does that make sense? I thought u can only stay out of canada for 3 years without losing PR? but my COPR is valid for 4 years?

What about your PR Card?. Did they issue it or not?. The copy of the COPR is not a valid document to travel back to Canada if you travel by air but perhaps (?) you could be allowed to enter road when travel by road depending on the mood of the officer at the boarder. I think the expiry date of the COPR does not concern when you landed and become a PR already. But you have to maintain the PR obligation of staying with Canada for a period of 730 days within five year, either consecutive or broken days.

No I never got a PR card.

I heard COPR was good for travelling by road? I think I also rem confirming it with the Canadian border official during landing but not fully sure.

What I was hoping was that incase i dont fullfil the PR residence requirements (ie expires in 2013), I can still be let in to Canada (if i wish) as a PR since my COPR doesnt expire until late 2014.

Below pasted is a paragraph from CIC website:

Confirmation of Permanent Residence

" If your application is approved, the visa office will issue a permanent resident visa to you. Your permanent resident visa includes your Confirmation of Permanent Residence and your entry visa. Your Confirmation of Permanent Residence will include identification information, your photograph, as well as an expiry date by which you and your dependents must arrive in Canada. Please check the information on your Confirmation of Permanent Residence to make sure it is correct. It should be the same as the information on your passport. If there is a mistake on your Confirmation of Permanent Residence, contact your visa office.

You must have your Confirmation of Permanent Residence and your visa with you when you arrive in Canada."

From the above  what do I understand is that the COPR expiry date is not indicating the PR Expiry.The PR expiry date will be given on your PR Card.

Regarding entry to USA by road with a copy of COPR and your passport could be possible if the BSA officer allowes.

I don't think you can take the COPR expiry date into consideration. Probably you may have to get another expert opinion.
