Hello, how do you contact your MP? Did you phone him or did you write him an email. It's been 4 months since I received the sponsorship approval and that our file was transfered to Bogota and we haven't received any AOR yet, so I want to know if my MP can investigate.

I am kind of shy to call him up for a personal matter, but I guess you don't talk to him directly right? How did you bring your case to the person on the phone and what he could do?

What did you say?

Thanks a lot

I met with my MP last week and was so glad I did it:)  I just phoned the office and asked if I could set up an appointment regarding immigration concerns and they got me in the next day and the day after that I had the info I needed.  My concerns were addressed amazingly and I left there feeling optimisitc and like I could go back again if I had further issues.  Do it!

what was it about? I am worried he will tell me that I am still within the timeframe and I should just wait...especially with the elections coming up. Also, he wanted to pass a bill so that new immigrants don't get the retirement "profits" only after 3 years of living here....

I mean the worst case scenario is that he says that he cant do anything for you but thats a small risk to take for him probably being able to help you....right?

My husband got a pretty crazy email from the embassy (saying that he was married before, which wasnt true) and I went to discuss it with them and they were able to access the CAIPS notes and also ensure me that once we provide the evidence we have that we should be fine.

They are there to help you so I would say try and take advantage of that!

Well your MP calls Ottawa who can access the CAIPS notes....they do not need to contact the embassy directly.  I mean if you are that worried dont do it but you could get some immediate answers that are really going to alleviate your worry, anxiety, and fear.  If I have any more bumps int he application process I will not hesitate to contact them.  ANd as a side note, it wasnt the MP directly that I met with...they have someone in the office in charge of immigration concerns.  When I was in the office there were 2 phone calls for people wanting information on how to extend thier immigration visas.  They are there to help you!!!!!

Also...does 4 months seem to be out of the normal processing time for the Bogota office?  What do others timelines look like from that office?

Well considering the processing time for 80% of spousal applicants is 15 months the OP shouldn't expect any replies from either Bogota or the MP (The MP probably has bigger fish to fry at the moment) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp#west

And I would also suggest visiting the Bogota Embassy webpage as it may list different time lines. FOr example, the above link says 15 months for Mexico City but if you visit the embassy webpage it says 6 months (as did the AOR email we recieved).

Hi medellinguy,

I'm also applying in bogota, I'll say just wait a little more remember that the timeframe for bogota is about 15 months depending in your case or others, in my case they requested my wife' passport on March 15 we sent it back the same day, and I sent the application package on September 25th, so I guess yours could be probably on the way....I'm in Colombia now hoping that I can comeback to canada with my wife.

I was planning to contact my MP but someone told me not to until the time frame is close to the end, maybe he was right I'm just waiting for the pp and visa to finally go Canada with my esposa.

If you need any info about what we were asked from the embassy let me know to share my timeline.

Take care.

Absolutely.  Check back on May 3.  You may have a new MP.

Some of the Visa Offices do not send an AOR, if you are within the normal timeframe, I would just wait at this point in time, unfortunately we are now on the election path, which could be either a plus or minus, depending on how the MP looks at it....

Best of Luck

Yes, Bogota issues AOR because we have to send money so they can do a security check since we don't provide a police certificate when we send in our applications....

And I think it's a good idea to wait until May 3rd. If nothing by then, I will contact MP. One more month (hopefully not) to wait!
