Considering in-land sponsorship of girlfriend from Hong Kong

Hi hongkongguy and others which I have chatted with before!   Both my husband and I live in HK and applied in March 2011 and my husband just got his passport back yesterday with the visa!     So it really only took 7 months for the entire processing (even with some hiccups along the way like messing up my home address - I still haven't received the sponsorship approval letter haha!  But who cares now?!    )

Hi Steaky, I would love to know also!  There are so many things to plan and do now!!  We are planning to move most of our furniture and belongings as we have heard prices are not that cheap to buy everything from scratch.

Also, it would be great if you can share how to bring money over.. I have no idea which is a better option.. I have an account in Toronto already so is it best to do telegraphic transfer (but how to report the amount we transfer when we land?) or buy a bank draft or...??!  Thanks!

This was my two experience of moving my furniture & belongings to Vancouver, Canada:

With regards to money transfer between Hong Kong and Canada, if are bringing cash or bank draft in a sum greater or equal to CAD10,000 at a Canadian port of entry, you shall declare it in the form you received from the commercial carrier (such as airline).  Otherwise, if you telegraphic transfer, the bank will report on your behalf.  If you have a HSBC premier account in both Hong Kong and Canada, you transfer it at no costs.  Bank draft takes time to clear, but funds through TT is immediately available.

After the letter received in Aug 2011 for submission of police cert./ 'letter of release' from Inland Revenue, we finally got the e-mail from the consulate to send in the passport.  However, I would like to know how long does it normally take to send it to the consulate and receieve it?

Furthermore, what is the expiry date stamped on the visa?  Is it the last day of the validity of the medical report?

Hi there, I got my decision made today! So happy! 

Today is Oct 10. The HK visa office received my application on July 6. That means it takes the VO around 3 months to process my case!

1)Where did you send the application? Mississauga?
2) Was you a visitor in May, 2011?
3) Did you go back to HK to pick up the visa?
I and my son are Canadian citizen (we both from HK) and my wife is a HK resident.  My son will start the school term by the coming sep in toronto and i am just worrying if my wife need to go back to HK for the visa or not if the application is approved.
By the way, we are going to submit the application within this week and my wife just did the medical at last week and DMP said it will be sent to Beijing shortly.

I have been so stressed out these days and reading your posts really help to lift up my spirit

I hope to send out my Application Kit at the end of March, but i guess since my boyfriend and I are not married yet, so the processing time might not be as quick??

If you have a lot of proof that you have lived together for one year, then common-law does not take longer than married to process. Where it can take longer is when the visa officer thinks there is not enough proof, and asks for more or requires an interview.

Hi, I would suggest to get more photos of you, your boy friend and lots of family members and friends together in gatherings, dinners, trips, weddings, etc.  This shows that many people know about your relationship.  And I think try to get as many letters of support as you can from family and friends (best to be notarized) would help also.  Good luck!
